It is so very anguishing that 100 of our seafarers could not disembark on their own soil and had to be shipped to Mumbai to be quarantined there in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Isn’t it an irony that the Goa Government which time and again has been claiming that they are ready for any contingency has now admitted that it did not have the capacity and protocols in place to quarantine these hundred seamen. By now the government should have ensured that the entire required infrastructure for such an eventuality was available at the Airport, Seaport and the border check posts. What was this government doing since January? It was instead pre-occupied on those inconsequential Zilla Panchayat elections which had to be rightly postponed after that High Court rap. If we are unable to quarantine even a hundred, what would be the fate if God forbid there is a bigger spread of this dreadful epidemic? The authorities should come clear and clean on their preparedness to battle COVID -19. Let there be no more tomfoolery.
