While observing social distancing and other COVID-19 protocol, I last week had a meeting with labour department officers and sought their intervention to ascertain whether the staff working at our Milroc Complex in Ribandar were getting all that they are entitled to in accordance with the labour laws and regulations. Labour Minister Jennifer Monseratte was also kind enough to direct her officials to expeditiously look into the matter.
Our huge complex where I reside and have an office too, is ably manned by just 10 employees who include a Supervisor, Plumber cum Electrician, Gardener and seven sweepers. Many of them have been tirelessly serving us for over two decades. Our concern has to always be for especially these daily wage workers. They must get all that they are at least by law entitled. They deserve our compassion and there can be no exploitation whatsoever. Bonded labour and slavery is now history. So also no room for thugs and bullying. These toiling workers need our care and concern, especially in the current critical times.
