Sarto , a brilliant architect by profession, expired on May 26 last at the ripe old age of 96 in his adopted village of Seraulim. Hif famous works among many were the renovation of Ana Fonte Gardens, a beautiful spot in the centre of Margao and the other was the design of the International Centre at Dona Paula. It is to be noted that Architect Sarto was the younger brother of the late Architect Tony Almeida of Dar es Salaam who had designed Goan Institute in Dar and also Dsm Technical Institute. Both Tony and Sarto were born in Dar es Salaam , educated in Bangalore and in JJ School of Arts in Bombay.They were sons of Francisco Piedade Almeida of Patnimorod Chinchinijm. His shop was called Messrs. Almeida and Menezes which finds mention in Selma Carvalho,s book '' A Railway runs through;; page 24 "" In 1919 a few Goan businesses lined Acacia Avenue in Dar es Salaam . The local agents for the East African Standard a newspaper were Messrs. Almeida and Menezes."" Sarto's and Tony's paternal grandmother hailed from the family of Advocate Laurente Menezes who himself was a Professor of Latin language, Administrator of Diu Municipality and sometimes was an Acting Judge.
