Roland Francis asks:
"Are Goans Racist?"
________________________________________________________________________________________
First of all with respect to the discussion at hand re Idi Amin's expulsion of
foreign passport holders from Uganda, it appears that Goans did not play a
prominent part in Amin's calculations. They just happened to be at the wrong
place at the wrong time and were painted with the same broad brush since they
were part of a supporting cast for the British colonialists. Subsequently and
happily they all landed on their feet elsewhere and probably with much improved
prospects. Also some Indian Investors are returning to Africa as partners rather
than colonialists buying and leasing farmlands and adding jobs in the
agriculture sector and increasing the African agriculture
output.https://www.africa-business.com/features/indians-africa-farmlands.html

As far as the Race question and more to the point the Caste question,
Manusmriti's Law dating back to at least 1000 BC, is what drives this social
caste construct that assigns economic advantages to certain sectors of the
Indian society based on nebulous discriminators. Those who benefit from it,
have no reasons to abandon the "ignorant and abhorrent law", which by the way
has been deemed to be  illegal in India  for many years.
The impact of the Portuguese Catholic culture in  Goa over 450 years including
the years of the Inquisition perhaps played a significant role in homogenizing
Goan society but it seems there are pockets of casteism and  endogamy persists.
Dr. Madhvi Potluri is a Human Rights Activist. Here she presents her Thesis
that DNA testing proves the irrelevance of the Caste System In India. This 30
minute presentation is a little challenging to watch as she laboriously lays
the ground work, but, wait for it, wait for it, she finally discloses her main
point which is that we all have the same Mother! And in her view this fact
completely invalidates the Caste system in India.
