Francis your message dated: Thu, 18 Jun 2020 09:23:57 -0400 Francis I have an important revelation. You do not have to wait for the African Jr of Political Science. The latest edition of AWAAZ which came out in March 2020 has one version. . <<<<Google Adolfo Mascarenhas AWAAZ , Journal in Kenya>>>>
I was surprised because I had sent them a review article longish in the same spirit I had previously written for them when I wrote the article on Judy Luis Watson’s book on Goan Bands and the Dawn of the Jazz Age. Basically they had written to me to say it was too long, it had several illustrations .etc I suspected something else. A couple of nights ago I was answering a query on my late wife on womens rights. ..and up pops Awaaz !!! <<<Going back, when I was last in Quepem slightly over 18 months ago I purchased a copy and a number of other books in Margao . That night it became my first choice to read Leonars book . It was engrossing and brought back a flood of memories . Part of it was like a nightmare. The background was that although Tanzanian citizens in almost two decades after 1961, were not allowed to go to Portugal. In the mid 1970;s I actually carried a UN Passport because I had a long term assignment with WHO/UNICEF based in Geneve. While I was waiting for the Res. Rep I was told by my former teacher now working in UNDP that her close relative had been released and was staying with them. However, her relative was still vociferous. Therefore; when the UNDP Res. Rep requested me to go to Lisbon and give my assessment about Development and views on Human Rights situation in Tanzania. I agreed to do so. Reading the book in Quepem was partly nightmare even though Salazar was no more, Portugal was still not a safe place. To cut a long story short. I did go to Lisbon and categorically informed the Chairman that the two detained were put in for their own safety. They were released and free in DSM ! President Nyerere was not a monster and a couple of the fellows in the Revolutionary Council should have been put on trial. I bought several four more copies of the book, to give to my Lawyer friends and Ophelia’s friends. One of the Lawyers is the new Foreign Minister of Tz. I have two other drafts of of the book on the Book of Sita. The last piece was written in August 2019 or so was on Human Rights in Angola…I have a bit more faith on the President Joao L It will be great to remove the spot light from me to somebody really deserving Adolfo In Quepem Just wondering PS It would be nice to get a feed back when you read the article
