Across the globe every human including our dear Goans are so rightly in a sense of disbelief and understandably there is a deep sense of raging trust deficit with those in Power over the raging COVID-19 virus which has engulfed the entire world not sparing every nook and corner of our once safe and pristine Goa.
While in the Opposition, Goa’s BJP’s Mahila Morcha was ever so aggressive while roaring and demonstrating against every price hike. But surprisingly there has not been even a tear shed on the now continuing unaffordable rates of fuel and other essential commodities. All said and done just because the State’s Mahila Morcha is headed by Goa’s First Lady Sulakshana Sawant being the wife of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant it should not deter her and her team from firmly standing up against any social and economic injustice to the Women in particular and Goans at large. India’s limp along Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, has long lost the plot and needs to be replaced by someone who can think out of the box with vision, economic policies and correctly target investment with full transparency and Zero tolerance to corruption currently now galloping in the corridors of Power. This is vital and urgently required to chart India’s road to financial recovery especially in view of the current pandemic and these unprecedented times. However optimistic we may be, there is no hope whatsoever that our polity and political turf will ever improve. It is only further rapidly deteriorating and awfully decaying by the day. The unacceptable antics and behavior of some of our politicians in recent days has turned Politics into a so despised profession and looked upon with disdain and held in low esteem by the very people that they are meant to serve. The outrage to the flexing of political muscles by Valpoi’s Vikas Dubey is a matter of great concern. In a democracy while voicing out on social issues and causes that affect particularly the poor and underprivileged, we need to look beyond political parties lines. We require to voice out fearlessly against any and all those ills grappling our society. Goa is currently in extremely dire straits and let us hope that the Women and Student Power which has always been a force to reckon with, will step in to rescue our State from being further sunk. William Hazlitt a great essayist and English philosopher, observed that ‘’some persons make promises for the pleasure of breaking them’’. PM Modi’s track record perfectly fits this description. John D. Rockefeller, the powerful business magnate and philanthropist believed in the sacredness of a promise, that a man’s word should be as good as his bond, that character- not wealth or power or position- is of supreme worth.
