A recent article described Pakistan as a decrepit state attached to a
bedraggled army. Now it never really possessed the essentials of a state, unless
you consider the trappingsof a faith as fitting the bill. This was not true
about India, even though Nehru's Sovietreligion did bring us to the brink.
We are there again, what with mindless spending on armaments, the Punjabi need
forstripes on their shoulders, and the new disease that is tearing into our
guts and severely testing the beloved voodoo precepts of my people.   Longer
shadows and darker evenings of my northern home approach with autumn. But
therewill be room for holiday season lights.
