Press Note. "Gandhi offers solutions for the Pandemic driven world." Prof.Douglas Allan
Gandhi's ideas on compassion and service, coupled with his focus on justice and equality are needed most in the pandemic driven world, stated Prof.Douglas Allan, eminent philosopher from University of Maine, United States. Speaking on the occasion of "Gandhi Samagra" celebrations on the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Goa University, he touched upon how Gandhi, seen in a 'contextualised perspective' and not absolutist perspective that puts him in an idealist position, is much more practical and relevant in the contemporary world. "Gandhi, with all his imperfections on the ideas of caste, gender and development provided a moral compass that remains eternal to human existence. Gandhi espoused philosophy of non violence and peace through a very practical prism of individual behaviour, and therefore is the best counter to the idea of hate and otherness which we permeate in our day today lives", he asserted. Prof.Douglas has been the author of Gandhi after 9/11 and addressed the United Nations General Assembly on the occasion of International day of Non Violence on October 2nd in 2017. Prof. Rahul Tripathi, Head, Dept of political Science, chaired the session.Prof. Usha Muralidharan, Coordinator, Gandhi Samagra welcomed the audience.Prof.Koshy Tharakan, Dept of Philosophy, introduced the speaker and Prof.Nilesh Borde proposed vote of thanks. Prof.Varun Sahni, Vice Chancellor, Goa University graced the occasion which was attended by more than hundred participants from all over the world. -- Disclaimer visit: https://www.unigoa.ac.in/docs/disclaimer.html <https://www.unigoa.ac.in/docs/disclaimer.html>.
