Pity that Roland Francis suspects Mehdi Hasan's 'intentions' and dismisses him as an Islamist apologist.
Here is evidence to the contrary:

2009:
In April 2009, Hasan argued against the concept and idea of an Islamic state.
2010:
In April 2010, Hasan wrote a piece condemning the controversial Islamic advocacy of the death penalty for apostasy in the New Statesman.
2011:
Hasan wrote in The Guardian in Sept 2011 condemning the Iranian government for its proposed execution of Youcef Nadarkhani, arrested on charges of apostasy.
2013:
He appeared at an Oxford Union debate proposing a motion arguing that Islam is a religion of peace. [Does this make him an 'Islamic apologist'?]
Mehdi is quite a young chap, born in July 1979. A true intellectual.

Roland should be more concerned why it is hard to find Hindu intellectuals who can engage in rational discussion and logical deduction. (In the BJP camp, high officials like Modi. Shah or Yogi Adityanath can only parade their ignorance & bigotry.)

I disagree.

Mehdi Hassan’s intentions are suspect. He is an Islamic apologist as you
can see from the Oxford Debates.

No problem with that but why is he becoming an American citizen when he
knows that the current American circumstances are anti-Islamic? Can he not
wait until a more sensible authority comes into power?

I suppose he doesn’t have much to choose from. On the one hand his current
citizenship country Britain, is currently almost as low in reputation as
America for different reasons.

Roland.
