The Old Goa Police station despite its very wide jurisdiction has not been provided proper premises. The state of the Police Station is very pathetic and a matter of concern. A total of 10 villages come under the Old Goa Police Station which includes Old Goa, Corlim, Carambolim, St Estevam, Cumbarjua, Divar, Chorao, Chimbel, Merces and St. Cruz besides Ribandar. Despite such a vast jurisdiction the crucial Old Goa Police Station for the last many years is housed in a very extremely cramped premises which is not more than 150sq mts and lacking even the basic facilities.
The lack of proper space is adversely affecting the working of the police station which is lacking in basic amenities for the staff and people who visit the Police station. In 2016 after direction from the Goa Human Rights Commission an inspection was conducted of the Old Goa Police Station which highlighted the pathetic state of affairs. But even though four long years have elapsed since the submission of that Inspection report, no corrective measures have been taken to improve the state of affairs at the Old Goa Police Station. Let us hope Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will act in this matter on a priority to ensure that a proper and spacious premises with all amenities for the staff and the people visiting the Police Station is in place.
