For overseas Goans, these FN interview podcasts are extremely interesting, as they give us a glimpse of Goan events over the years and how they played out in the lives of high profile personalities.
The CSU (Catholic Students Union) was a powerful force in the social lives specially of students of St Xaviers and Sophia colleges and of young Catholics in other Bombay colleges. With their connection to the Catholic Gymkhana and the top Goan bands of the day, they afforded young people an outlet for their dull but necessary study days. As a president of this body, Alexyz must have wielded enviable influence. It almost makes me cry to hear of the meagre rewards of journalists and artists in early Goa. Not that things have altogether brightened since then. A very heavy price to pay for the desire to be in one’s home surroundings with a view to improve the situation in it. Idealistic but painful. So it helps to hear that in retrospect and hindsight they would have it no other way. Way to go Alexyz and FN. You brightened up a Sunday morning. Roland Toronto.
