It is despicable that an acutely debt-ridden Goa Government which is borrowing hundreds of crores every month has decided to merrily squander a whopping 100 crores to celebrate 60 years of Goa’s Liberation.
Ironically what Goa is witnessing today is another liberation movement by a determined people uprising across the State against ill thought out projects that are being bull dozed against the wishes of the people. With the very crucial Mhadei issue haunting us and so many other extremely serious tribulations confronting the State, it is very inappropriate for the government to even have thought of such celebrations and that too while the pandemic is raging. Yet again, the Government has displayed crass judgement on the priorities and needs of the people by making vanity projects for personal gain a higher priority than the common good. Goa needs to be freed from corruption, nepotism and see Good Governance. There has to be total transparency and accountability in the functioning of the Government. Our State has to be unchained from the menace of corruption and being a gambling, drug and prostitution den and not being a safe haven for crime and criminals. For too long our elected representatives, have failed to be a Government of the people by the people and for the people. The insistence of a government to dabble in pompous projects that have little or no benefit for the common good and which very often end up as a scam, has forced a disappointed and frustrated people to liberate themselves by standing up to a Government to demand that their needs are given top priority. The second struggle for personal, medical, economic and environmental liberation has well and truly begun. The people have rightly realized that change and liberation will not come if they depend solely on others or on some other time. They have decided that they will be the change they seek and hence the current uprising. When we have personal, medical, economic and environmental freedom then we can have reason to proudly celebrate a truly liberated Goa.
