LIBERATING OURSELVES
The visit of our President it appears on our actually 59th year completion of
liberation, with many technical bloopers reported like mike not working at
critical stage and at some other official 60th Liberation function flag not
opening and so on indicating tolerance we must have for everything government
does. But what shocked me was, on our very own Liberation day,videos of the
preventative bundling away of students and the "liberating" treatment meted out
to them after confining them to Buses, driving them without their knowlege to
Ponda/Agasaim! Father Bolmax and Captain Viriato are taken to a Magistrate,
released late night on surety of Rs25,000/- each and reportedly told to report
twice a week to the police for the next three months, whilst students released
at after 9 PM! Hello, is this a liberated people from rule by kings and
foreigners or terror treatment from our own police controlled by our elected
representatives? It is time we tell the government where we draw the line when
it comes to individual freedom, right to life, liberty and dignity. And we will
have to stand up for anyone who is so treated with similar preventative
detention like terrorists and criminals under UAPA or NSA and the other many
misused police Act /CPC sections routinely slapped on dissenting citizens. We
need a "police service" not a "police force"! We know and have experienced
that power corrupts and the arogance of absolute power. People cannot be
treated like subservient subjects with impunity! Wherefore is justice if
justice delayed is justice denied?
