DEMOCRACY IN ACTION
The Union Government has a centralized vision, not shared by the Opposition and
which is badly hurting federalism not to mention the minorities, those not
computer savvy, landless/houseless, the poor, illiterate and downtrodden and
citizens in general like farmers agitating etc. People are being forced to
embrace Hindutva culture, changes in lifestyle and way of doing business that
they do not want and living too much by myth and too little by fact/ground
realities. Big seems to be beautiful, small neglected and less humanity in
dealings, winning elections by hook or by crook being the flavor of politics
these days. Sub ka Saath, Vikas and Vishwas cannot come by destroying our unity
in diversity? The Shaheen Baugh Agitation in December 2019 against CAA ,
besides raising voice against the barbaric action against the JNU and CMU
students, the Farmers spontaneous revolt in December 2020 against the 3 hastily
passed laws without adequate discussion/consultation, both agitations braving
the cold Delhi winter with no great pre planning, kept apolitical as much as
everyone tried to politicize them, both involving a large number of people with
tenacity and determination has drawn the admiration of majority of Indians and
attention of the democratic world even in these Covid dangerous days! A
demonstration of power of the unarmed peaceful people protest against all the
might the imposing Rulers have thrown against them! I understand about 22
amendments are to be made and still the government will not agree to scrap the
three laws passed and renew them in negociations now still going on! Hopefully
we will conquer stubborn Corona and renew the Parliamentary spirit of our
democracy in the New Year. This so called Rulers and Police Force for them
instead of calling themselves "Servers" and "Police Service" for the people is
a much needed reform. The Pradhan Mantri becoming a Pradhan Sevak not only in
words but in deeds will change Rulers into humble Servers in 2021, I pray!
