It is a great honour for Ribandar that our very own Mr. Vinayak Khedekar was on this Republic day the recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award bestowed on him by the Government of India.
Mr. Khedekar may have been born in Savoi-Verem but many decades ago he decided to build his house at Ribandar and settle here. Over the years he has been a very successful and resourceful ambassador of Goa’s culture and is the first Goan to receive a Padma Shri for his outstanding achievement in folklore and traditional art. Vinayak Khedekar who served as Member Secretary of Kala Academy for 23 long years was a very dedicated folk researcher. A very successful folklorist he has been. Now at the age of 82, Vinayak Khedekar who has also been a writer continues to be as optimistic as he has always been. Active as ever while he never misses his morning walk.
