CAN WE TOLERATE DICTATORIAL DEMOCRACY?
The change from Trump to Biden holds great significance for India due a
sizeable electorate admires Trump and similar parallels in India. There
Instituions and the courts held! Religion and hype/propaganda was not permitted
to overule law. A democratic government might and court judicious
pronouncements in India must be tempered with dignity and magnanimity bent
towards the poor and helpless. Parliament must be allowed to function
democratically not avoid discussion and bulldoze ordinances! The prolonged
farmers agitation (luckily a force to reckon with) and actions resulting are
purely the result of undemocratic behavior by a majority government which
brings back memories of our foregn rulers. To quote Shashi Taroor who I
understand is booked along with senior prominent journalists for sedition "We
have free speech before , but not after making it!" Where is freedom of the
Press to report freely and without fear what they see and hear, correct and
update as it unfolds? Stand up comedians are behind bars for what they intend
to say, and not even given bail. It broke my heart to have witnessed the
migrant labor and Dalit travails, millions of loss of jobs, and the
controversial High Court POSCO rulings among others! An Agra couple after 5
years in prison on false charges, finally reunited with their minor children.
What about this horror brought into their lives? Myntra forced to revamp brand
mark because some people reportedly found design/color of letter M was indecent
and denigrating women! Plenty of such stories of injustice and violence with
impunity and government seems not the least bothered or unaware that its
policies, actions and patronage might be the root cause of so much avoidable
national pain! There is a saying "Pride goes before a fall" especially fuelled
by ego.
