Dressing the diaspora: dress practices amongst East AfricanIndians, ca.1895/19395 -1939
I have never seen my mother in a Saree. Her mother from Aldona wore traditional clothes ...with a white wrap covering the head. The Goan men who came to Africa dressed like Speke and Burton but the pants tapered around the ankles to stop the bugs crawling .....My uncles who were in the judiciary were always suited ....seldom spoke English..it was Portugese My Dad going back from 1926 when he first came to Tanzania was suited in Office .....necktie etc ....All the other Asian Communities continued with the traditional clothes ...to this day the Sikhs and Boharas both men and women wear traditional clothes .... Now out of the blues Wilson, Christopher (2018) has completed a study called Dressing the diaspora: dress practices amongst East African Indians, ca.1895-1939. *Modern Asian Studies* , ISSN 0026-749X.
