John de Sa slags the Indian mind and it’s inability to conceptualize the ideas around liberty, democracy and the finer elements of the social contract which the western world gave birth to and nourished.
The democratic system which is the focus of these ideas, today no longer seems valid or useful or the only solution. It has given growth to rampant and unbridled capitalism which has caused the huge inequality of living standards that has affected even the western world. Today at world gatherings all this is being recognized and alternative solutions sought. That means the once much-vaunted thought processes of western society needs propping up, a good makeover being called for. Let’s take this train of thought on another track. With scarce resources and limited quality education access, India has produced the biggest mass of information technology experts. All this happened in mere decades as compared to the centuries it took to develop democracy, which even today seems to have failed in places one would have never expected. So what was happening to the western mind while the Indian computer brain was developing. Perhaps like Nehru and Ambedkar, the problem was being solved by picking the best of Indian minds and just transplanting them in clever positions in government and large corporations while the rest of the population remained ignorant of parts of the world where they didn’t need to fight wars or exploit resources. So who was really found lacking? The Indian mind or the western systems that are now crashing around themselves. Roland. Toronto. Indian languages simply lack modern conceptual categories (like history, sociology, philosophy, etc) and the few Indians like Ambedkar or Nehru who visited England lost no time in expanding their English vocabulary and learning European concepts.
