Dear Goanetters,
I have read the blog by Ms Shobhaa De with interest. She has written the truth
and the whole truth, as regards the “invasion from the North”.

I am reminded of a Seminar that our office held in a hotel in Calangute not too
long ago. Just out side the hotel was an eating place with a board: “Pure Jain
food available”. This was a real shock to my non Goan friends. A “Pure Jain
food“ eating joint in what used to be Pure Non-Veg Goa!

Am also reminded of my home town Bandra. The buzz now is always “ Oh Bandra has
changed so much. These “outsiders” have moved in and are destroying the
culture of Bandra”.

Now my take on the “changing face” of both Goa and Bandra, is very simple. How
did these” outsiders” proliferate so much? Who has been selling/ renting
properties to them, at humongous rates? Aren’t the “insiders” out to make
hay, while the going is good? In Bandra, so may have sold their ancestral
properties to “outsiders” and moved to larger flats in suburbs like Malad,
Kandivali and Borivali.

Ultimately, it’s all a question of “money -honey!” - Sell to the highest bidder
even if the highest bidder happens to be a “rank outsider!” Culture be damned.
So, who is to blame for the extant situation in both places?

Regards
Edwin Fernandes
