In a very questionable and skewed move the Goa Government is trying to hurriedly convert the very badly equipped Sancoale Police Outpost premises into a full fledged Police Station.
One wonders whether the government is planning to hastily have that farcical and mock inauguration of the Sancoale Police Station on 27th February which is the birthday of the local MLA Mrs. Alina Saldanha. The current Sancoale outpost housed in a very cramped shed admeasuring around 80 sq mts cannot properly accommodate even the outpost and its mere five staff. How is this very small premises going to take care of a police force of 40 which is the minimum staff that would be required to run a Police Station? While this premises does not even have separate toilets and barracks for lady staff, even the power supply to the current outpost is being illegally drawn from a neighbouring petrol pump while the water supply is courtesy of Zuari Agro Chemicals. The government should inaugurate the Sancoale Police Station only after all the required infrastructure and necessary amenities are in place as that Police Station will have to cater to a huge population of over 25,000 comprising residents of the Panchayats of Sancoale, Cansaulim and Velsao-Pale. Does the Government have to be reminded again that the Goa Human Rights Commission has on several occasions emphasized that the police are Human beings and should be so treated. It is dismaying that the authorities are consistently paying scant respect to the welfare and well being of the police force. The Chief Secretary and DGP must intervene to ensure that the police personnel do not suffer hardship and misery while ruining their health without the necessary infrastructure and facilities at the proposed Sancoale Police Station.
