Today is tha  21 Day of the second month of 2021 while campainers have for 
years  been banging on the doors of Google for our langauge to be included in 
their list of translations  an alert by Lui Godinho   of a Zoom Webinar that 
our langauge Konkani will be included for the first time at the Annual United 
Nations Observance Day On Mother Langauges in London United Kingdom.

This year’s webinar will represent 20 regional Indian languages under the

Konkani language with be included for the first time at Annual United Nations 
Observance Day on Mother Languages in London. This function has been held in 
London for the last three years, at the House of Commons and House of Lords. 
However this year in view of the pandemic there will be a webinar.

Mario Fernandes (aka Babit) ex teacher and a musician will represent Konkani 
with a three mins  talk on “Konkani in the life of a Goan”, along with 19 other 
Indian Regional languages. Mario will read in Konkani, however there will be an 
English translation for the general public.
The function is organised by Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence which was 
founded by Dr Ragasudha Vinjamuri, Associate Lecturer, University of Sunderland 
in London and she is also  Fellow of Royal Society of Arts.
This year’s functions is called “Kaavyanjali International Mother Language 
Day”.  

Dr Raga as she popularly known is a classical dancer (Indian) and has presented 
24 dances at the Houses of British Parliament and twice at the European 
Parliament in Brussels.

Sanskruti Centre has been engaging with different linguistic communities in the 
UK encouraging their participation on different occasions.

Last year on the occasion of World Health Day, Dr Bernadette Pereira, 
Consultant Surgeon in London, recited a poem in Konkani on the subject of 
Coronavirus.

This year webinar will represent 20 regional Indian languages under the banner 
“Kaavyanjali” for the International Mother Language Day on 21stFeb 2021.
