Bhandare,
If I said it I said it and I owe you an unconditional
apology. Obviously my memory is not as good as it used
to be.
Those were naive days, when I thought Goa and Goans
had come a long way. When I believed that Goa was a
coven of communally compatible communities and those
of us Catholics who had a genuine grouse with the
Church were free to take it up on a public forum like
this. As I said before no religion gets a pass because
it has the sanction of religion.
Unfortunately, more than a year later, I've learnt
many things. I've learnt how Catholic clergy all over
India are being persecuted with false allegations of
so-called forced conversions, so called age-old
persecutions of Hindu communities by saints and sages
who are all dead and forgotten, and any number of
made-up excuses to taunt and torment this peace loving
community.
I still have many differences with the Catholic church
but you won't find me voicing them on a forum like
this because I know now how people of a certain
ideology are waiting in the wings to twist those
concerns that come from within the Catholic community,
and turn them into a reason to persecute Christians in
India.
