Angered at the harassment of non-Goan-led Satyagrahis (freedom fighters) by the
Portuguese in Goa in 1954, Nehru imposed an economic blockage in Goa. It didn’t
work.

Led by a madman, the US imposed economic sanctions (the same as a blockade) on
Iran again after withdrawing from the nuclear pact that Iran did not infringe.
It didn’t work.

Before that, the US again, had imposed a blockade on Cuba for some long
forgotten communist, Cold War grievance which most Americans themselves won’t
remember, that how long it has been. It doesn’t work.

In sanctions and blockades the poor people of the country suffer and die of
essentials shortages. The rich are able to dodge it and the rulers of the
country only harden their resolve to resist.

Even wars no longer work. I saw a journalistic piece in the American media that
said the current President needs to cut losses and just get out. The wars in
Afghanistan and Iraq achieved nothing except deaths and trillions of dollars
because they rushed in and had no strategy to solve the problem. Cutting losses
seem to have become an American habit, starting from Korea and Vietnam and
continuing to this day.

Now it is Venezuela’s turn. You’ll find this Al Jazeera coverage very
interesting for the clever way in which Maduro beat American sanctions.

So does the US just give up being the world’s policeman and let China have a
run at it? Who knows, may be that plan will just bankrupt the Bamboo Curtain.
In any case, with wars and sanctions not working, all those think tanks led by
cartoon characters like Dinesh D’Souza better come up with some stupider
alternative.

The US needs leadership like Germany had with Merkel. Sadly it does not have
it. Biden is good only a a stop-gap between Trump and someone else. America did
not become great again, it just got fcked.
