May be this is a bad time to point out that most Indian people, with exceptions like Tony D’Sa and his kind who are farsighted, were tolerant of corruption despite warnings that “Corruption Kills”. What could be the harm, they were thinking. It’s easier to get things done that way, and officials need to live too.
Now the unfortunate lessons from that are too close and uncomfortable to bear, with death on your doorstep and inside your house. A good example would be a fire that started in the ICU of a suburban Bombay hospital killing 12 people in the unit because contrary to rules, there were no sprinklers installed. Just a few days before a Fire Dept safety renewal certificate was issued to the hospital. If there is one lesson that will benefit Indians from all this is the hope they will rise against corruption.
