In the Fifties and Sixties, fish was abundantly available in Goa. Since
there was no electricity, there were no refrigerators. Fish was cooked and
consumed every day. To the best of my knowledge, there was only one ice
plant for us in Bastora, Bardez. However, with the advent of electricity in
the Seventies, many ice plants cropped up, which facilitated the fisher folk
to preserve left over fish by using ice. When fish is frozen, it is
difficult to determine its freshness but one knows its not fresh from its
wrinkled look and coldness. Frozen fish does not taste as good as fresh
fish.
Let us see what the late Jacinto Vaz has to say about boys who fall in love
