Amazon Kindle Book on St. Joseph Naik Vaz, Apostle of Kanara and Sri Lanka

On this 334th Anniversary of the first Mass said in Sri Lanka on June 23, 1687
by St. Joseph Vaz when he went there to re-found the Church in Sri Lanka under
Dutch persecution, we are honored to release a Kindle book by Filomena S. Giese
about his very great life and his humanitarian service to the abandoned victims
of the smallpox epidemic in Kandy in 1696.  It is written as a Tribute to all
First Responders, caregivers, and volunteers in the past and in today’s
Covid-19 pandemic who are risking their lives from danger or infection to save
others.

The title of the book is:  St. Joseph Naik Vaz (1651-1711) – an Indian-Sri
Lankan Saint and First Responder for our Covid times.

At the beginning of the book is an Article by Filomena published in the
Examiner (Mumbai) in January 2021 titled “ St. Joseph Naik Vaz – An Indian-Sri
Lankan Saint for our Covid Times.”  It describes the heroic way St. Joseph Vaz
and his nephew, Fr. Joseph Carvalho, gave shelter, food, medicine, washed the
sores of smallpox victims, comforted them, and even sometimes buried them.  It
was at this time that St. Joseph Vaz founded the first hospital in Kandy.

The Synopsis and description of the book is on our website:
