Goa, Malabar coast open target for sea...
The Pakistan Navy and the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) are in
possession of 83 Indian fishing boats, which are likely to be used for
sea-borne attacks along the West Coast of the country, intelligence reports
have indicated. Records available with the Indian Coast Guard have indicated
that 83 fishing boats were impounded off the Gujarat coast and escorted to
smaller ports in Pakistan in the past few months.
Goa on alert
Indian Coast Guard has also intensified patrolling off the Maharashtra-Goa
shores after receiving intelligence inputs that the al-Qaeda leadership has
sent a team to carry out attacks from the sea late last year. Goa's
Inspector General of Police Narinder Singh Randhawa confirmed to Sunday MiD
DAY that the threats were real. Some of the temporary measures have been
made permanent in view of the terrorist threats.
BARC in striking range
The planned sea-borne attacks assume significance in the light of the fact
that the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), India's nuclear powerhouse,
is within striking range of marine militants. There are other important
targets like the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's 200-odd manned and
unmanned offshore installations, the US consulate, naval detachments and
