Interesting to view the link. Adds to the theory that America’s hand is behind
the collapse of the Afghan Govt and the extraordinarily peaceful and organized
takeover of the Taliban.

You are right Patrice, everything will return to normal shortly but if one
wonders whats in it for the Taliban, here are a few pointers.

1. They saw no benefit in being a pariah state. Now they can continue milking
America and other western countries for aid which they will quickly convert to
arms to keep in power.

2. America promised to leave them the bulk of their armaments if they agreed to
a bloodless transfer of power. The US found no use for the puppet Afghan Govt
anyway.

3. The Taliban will keep close to Pakistan but will want to trade and deal with
India. Pakistan is a lean hungry dog, India a fat heavy pig. If you were
hungry, which would you want. Afghanistan would want both - the dog to help it
and the pig to feed it.

4. The Taliban is in the middle of a fight with ISIS in its own lands. ISIS is
gaining the upper hand. The Taliban is seen as corrupt by ordinary Afghan
people. ISIS on the other hand while fanatic about Islam, make it a point to
serve local society in various ways (like Hamas).

5. For their own distinct reasons, a lot of players in the region hate ISIS.
America, obviously. Iran because ISIS hate Shias. Gulf countries feel
threatened because ISIS wants to overthrow them. Pakistan because although they
can be used against India, they create trouble internally and don’t listen to
their ISI’s diktats. India because ISIS is always targeting them through proxy
groups.
The Taliban being greedy Pathans, on the other hand can be ‘managed’ by all,
with money and supplies.
