Hei Albert, My earlier posting on the subject did not get much response from readers either. Presumably, many of our readers have never been to Mapuca to see what a wreck it has been reduced to or people no longer go to towns because successive Goa Administrations succeeded in bringing the Central Business District Services right up to their door step. But that should be no excuse for making Mapuca and our other towns into virtual cesspits.
I would hold successive Goa Administrations responsible for turning our model towns into slums. Town generally are the pulse and a visible manifestation of the state of health of the country. If successive Administrations have shown themselves incapable of looking after out towns then they cannot be much good at anything else less visible either. We want our towns to be brought up to standard now or at least to the standard they once were. It is no good holding only the Administration responsible. People of Goa are responsible too. It is people who elect the Administration in. We need to be more conscious of who we vote into office. People need to be conscious also of how they want Goa to be and how they can help get it there. We have a pollution problem, a litter problem, a time keeping problem, a standards problem, a organisation problem, a planning problem but to name a few. People of Goa should mobilise and encourage able dynamic youngsters showing promise to take up positions of responsibility and challenge. We need people who care about Goa from our grass root villages, from our towns, from our counties from the state of Goa. Who we elect into office is our responsibility and we should not let non home grown party politics high jack the people to voting for them. There is no reason why Goa cannot emulate Singapore. They have done it. And their population consists of no other then hardworking Chinese and Indians. A fiercely independent Goa with a responsible population could be a model for the rest of India to follow. India is a growing world economic power. Goa can be at the leading edge of that development. We have to keep our sectarian differences out of politics. We do not necessarily require people with previous experience of government. They can be trained. If chimps can be trained why not our own people. We just need responsible and competent people for the job. What we must guard against is outside self interest groups propping up cardboard goan cut outs to serve their own interests in Goa. Seems very little point in kicking a dead donkey. This is my second say on the state of Mapuca and other towns of Goa. While we cannot organise, cooperate and mobilise, I fear in Mapuca you are more likely to be doing the light fantastic getting round cow patches or paving the roads with dung while looking for a parking space even if you are wearing your face mask, Albert. Cheers.
