Hei Folks,

Every village in Goa has a church or chapel, a temple or shrine so
why not a "masjid" for every village.

I have no idea from what village Bhandare comes from or whether he is
a Goan or not. If Bhandare would welcome a masjid into his village
that would ease the pressure on Chinchinim village, provide an
opportunity to bolster the RSS "votebank" ( I have a nasty feeling
that Bhandare may be party card holder folks ) with potential hordes
of new members and resolve the labour shortage problem in Goa. The
writer to Bhandare and Bhandare should be positive and think of the
benefits to their cause. Hahaha.

Cheers.

Hello Sharon,

Many thanks for promptly clarifying that the song 'Scientist' is composed by
Wilson but sung on the audio cassette by Michael. I like all songs on
'WILMIX Konkani-Originals' Album No.1. It would be a great idea if you
could come up with a CD of this album so it remains for posterity, as audio
cassettes tend to get spoiled over a period of time. Please ensure that you
mention on CD cover that lyrics of all songs are composed by Wilmix Wilson
Mazarello.

Whenever I find time, I write down lyrics of Konkani songs and post them on
Goan websites. I do this to promote Romi Konkani which is so dear to all of
us. One of these days I will be posting lyrics of one more song from the
album.

I thank you once again for your prompt reply.

Best regards,

Domnic Fernandes

Hello Domnic,

'KOnkani Originals' Album NO. 1 - ALL THE SONGS lyrics IN THIS ALBUM ARE
COMPOSED BY MY HUSBAND WILMIX WILSON MAZARELLO.

On this album, the singing of the songs is done by four people i.e. Wilmix
Trio (Wilson, Michael, Xavier) and Sharon. I have sung the solo song 'Dovo
Parvo'. That does not mean I have composed the song. I have lent my voice to
the song. Likewise, the song 'Scientist' is composed by Wilson but it is
sung on the audio cassette by Michael (his Trio partner then). Michael has
lent his voice to the song.

Hope this clarifies yr point.

ANSWER to "...probably see more Goans on trains in London !":

Because Goans in Portugal are wealthy integrated persons and mainly use
private cars.

Hi Bhandare,

Have you written to these authors / groups to enlighten them and engage them in a
dialogue? If they are engaged in criminal activities, there is the legal system to take
recourse and address grievances. There is absolutely no place for physical violence and
"a raw deal", and to take the law in one's own hands. Please do not think that
there are distortions only on the Hindu faith.

There are distortions also on the Catholic faith, including on this bulletin board,
including by yourself. And merely providing a web link does not make an allegation true
or a distortion a fact. The Catholics in the 21st century do not give "a raw
deal" to the perpetrators of or those who spread these distortions.

Today, there are more civilized and effective ways to challenge distortions.... however
despicable they may be. I hope you condemn the RSS cadres and their higher echelons in
India, who take the law in their hands and give a "raw deal" for perceptions of
or even factual existence of distortions about Hinduism.

Kind Regards, GL

----------------- Bhandare

The following are excerpts from a evangelical publication called Haqeeqat (The
Reality) written by M C Mathew, and published by Dr D M Thomas and Samuel
Thomas of Emmanuel Literature Society.

On page 100 : 'Ram?s wife Sita was taken away. She was left in forest according
to wish of Ram. Later Ram permitted Laxman to kill Sita. This Laxman was
defeated in fight by Ram, and later Ram disgusted with his life drowned himself
in Saryu. All this happened
with advice, consent and religious belief of half-naked sadhus of Hindutva'.

On p.269 it says: 'In modern world many Ramas of this belief are living
carefree. They marry several times, desert their wives, and leave them. Many
Ramas kill their Sitas. They are following their god Rama.'

There are many more extremely vulgar and derogatory comments about Arya Samaj,
hindu deities, Hindu saints like Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo,
Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Satya Sai Baba, Ma Amritanandamayi and so on.
While the secular press made a big deal about activities of the hindutva
activists, why was every one silent about this hate peddling?
The fact remains that if such texts are circulated in hindi in areas like rajasthan ,
missionaries will continue to get a "raw deal"

I worked in the Local Self Government Department (LSGD) in Goa Secretariat
from 1967 to 1971. Dayanand B. Bandodkar was Goa's Chief Minister at the
time.

Office reporting time was 10:00 am; ten minutes late sign-in or grace time
was allowed. Every morning a sign-in roster for every department was left
on a large table in the main hall where employees signed-in. The sign-in
roster was collected at around 10:15 am.

News had reached the CM that many Secretariat staff reported to work late.
Mr. Bandodkar did not waste time. The next day he reported to office early.
At exactly 10:10 he instructed Mr. Sirsat, the security officer, to collect
sign-in rosters. He then toured the building along with his PA (Personal
Assistant), visited every office and questioned the staff whenever he came
across an empty chair. A list of late comers was compiled and sent to heads
of departments with a request to summon the concerned employees, counsel
them and issue them a warning notice. Anyone with a genuine justification
was excused; others were punished. Boy, were we scared? From the next day
forward, everyone was punctual!

To his credit (in my opinion), overall, D.B. Bandodkar remains one of the
best Chief Minister's Goa ever had. If we will have to act, let's at least
follow the Wild West motto of yore: "If you want to shoot, shoot; don't
talk" (I think it was Clint Eastwood's line from the 1966 movie 'The Good,
The Bad, and The Ugly'). Whether it's the Chief Secretary or Chief
Minister, if you want to take action, go ahead and do it; don't keep
talking. We hope JP Singh's initiative and Digambar Kamat's concern brings
about improvement in attendance punctuality. We also hope the officials are
more courteous towards general public.

I often tell government employees in Goa, that if they were required to work
hard like us in the Gulf countries, India would not be considered a third
world country - we would have prospered by leaps and bounds.

Will employees be punctual now?

PANJIM: Chief Secretary JP Singh has sent a circular to all government
departments on July 11, 2007, asking them to strictly observe punctuality,
besides effective presence in the office and maintain absolute devotion to
duty. Singh wrote that in spite of repeated instructions, it has been
observed that punctuality in attendance is not adhered to besides officials
at the cutting edge level are not courteous to the public visiting the
offices, which results in inconvenience and harassment to general public.
The circular further states 'Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has expressed his
concern over the non-observance of punctuality of staff and discourteous
attitude towards the public.' [GT]

Cornel,
And how could you miss our very own Fascist in your list?

The 'honorable' Antonio de Oliveira Salazar was like the other three,
also profoundly Roman Catholic.

If it were not for the eminent Goan, Prof Froilano De Melo and a few
Goans of his eminence who challenged Salazar on the downgrading of
equal Portuguese nationality that the Government of the Marquis de
Pombal so magnanimously granted Goans in the 18th century, not many
Goans outside of Portugal would be Portuguese nationals today.

My friend John Barreto from Bahrain has been working on Konkani Karaoke
music for some time now.

We tried our best to remove the voice from the Konkani songs with help of
softwares available on net.. but could not succeed.

However John has not given up and is now singing konkani songs with the help
of English Midi's. John has shared with me some of the songs he recorded on
his pc.

Now you too can sing konkani songs...here is how to go about it...

Below are the lyrics of the famous Alfred Rose Song "Dukham Sanvronam" and
here is the link to the midi file.

http://www.goanet.org/images/topics/Konkani/Music/Karaoke/DukhamSanvronam.mid

This is how the karaoke singing works out....open up the midi and sing
along.

I hope one day someone will come out with good Konkani Karaoke music.

Enjoy!

Not to be concerned Eric. You have more than repaid your brother's
debt and then some.

I concur with what Eric and George say, having had the benefit myself
of the same education system that was operated by those priests of
Spain and Lower Germany with the occasional progeny of the Irish labor
class and the odd Armenian Catholic supported by the solid numbers of
dedicated Goan Jesuits one of whom was George Pinto's relative, no
less.

Just the other day I was involved in a discussion with my children on
the subject of effectiveness of our respective high school teachers.
While my children too, have been fortunate to have had an unusual
number of dedicated secular teachers within a public school system
funded by the Province of Ontario, their professionalism and discharge
of duties at the peak, would fall much short of the wholehearted
sacrifice of the stalwarts (not to mention the wide discrepancy in
their remuneration) that Eric, George, I and many other Goans were
lucky to have encountered. To be fair, the teachers were of various
religious persuasions, but it was the organized Catholic framework of
educating the young that made it all possible.

It is very interesting that on 2 days we have two
different reports which are very instructive

http://oheraldo.in/node/26523

"local ZP member, Joe Dias strongly opposed any place
of worship at the site.
He said Chinchinim village was the home for just two
Muslim families over half a decade ago, but said the
village has recorded a sharp rise in the population of
the minority community hailing from Belgaum, Hubli and
other areas.
Dias contended that granting permission for the Masjid
or prayer house would invite horders of outsiders in
the village and will alter the demographic character
of Chinchinim village.

Seems like more and more Christinas in salcette are
