When we buy food - whether it be cooking oil, fresh fish or spices - we trust
that the product we are getting matches what’s on the label. It turns out that
sometimes our trust is misplaced.

Around the world, a new type of organised crime is flourishing: Food fraud.

Food fraud is a highly lucrative criminal enterprise that affects a huge range
of products including olive oil, fish, honey, pepper, cumin and paprika.

Scams range from the intentional mislabelling of inferior products to pass them
off as something else, to substitution, dilution and even tampering.

Regulators are struggling to keep up with this burgeoning underground business,
which is risking the reputation of entire industries.

From the olive groves of Italy to the fish markets of France and the abattoirs
of Poland, this film takes you on a culinary journey of a very different kind.

Food Fraud airs tonight at 8:30 on ABC TV and ABC iview. You can also watch it
live on our Facebook page , or catch up later on ABC iview , YouTube, or our
website.
