St. Andrews College in Bombay is run by the diocese. An announcement in this
week's Examiner seeks tofill the position of an assistant professor.   It
states that the advertisement was approved by the University of Bombay. It
further suggests a preferencefor candidates with ' knowledge of Marathi '  So
much for the right to manage ones own institutions : things are now hitting
closer to home. A wake upcall for us.  We gladly educate the entire community,
only to discover we do not matter when it comes gettinghired. Catholics need to
face the new reality when deciding on the make up of our cultural structure.
Store staff and others refuse to respond when questioned in English. I enjoy
the derided expressions provoked by a Latin dialect since their Coptic
structure is identical to Sanskrit tongues. They back off.
