Even Alice would be surprised! What is going on at Old Goa where an iconic mansion has been illegally built throwing up bigger and bigger surprises.
The latest surprise is a suggestion to use the mansion for a good cause as an old peoples’ home or some other. To demolish it would create an eye sore! Really? Goa’s most famous urban architect has said multi storied buildings have been razed in other places in India - what’s the problem? In God praising Goa it is impossible? Some people are trying to create a confusion in the always confused Goan mind as everything is talk and conversation and nothing is conviction. There is also a demand to demolish the mansion and mark the zone without the building on the Regional Plan. What is wrong with it? Illegal buildings all over Goa and in CRZ are not marked on the Regional Plan. Will Mr Nilish Cabral please tell us why not? Don’t give us some cock-and-bull reason it cannot be done! What is the BJP government going to do about all the illegal buildings all over Goa especially in CRZ? We cannot reward people or politicians who support illegalities or it will be the end of Goa, and Goan society. What will other non-BJP political parties do about this cancer in Goan society? Will non-BJP political parties have the courage to include it in their manifestoes and display it starting with the big mouth parties - Congress, TMC, and the most forward party of them all - Goa Forward Party? And, as they say, last but not least why is the Roman Catholic Church silent about the illegal mansion in a world heritage site? Has the Roman Catholic Church turned its back on Jesus and become a real estate company?
