Right you are Patrice.

This subservience seen in Indian officialdom is downright disgusting.

If anyone has doubts about what I mean, just visit the Bombay Police
Commissionerate in Crawford Market and see the bowing and scraping of police
personnel when the brass walks past. Its just short of crawling on the floor
like some centipedes or Indian pilgrims do. Also as if some nineteenth century
Indian maharajah was striding (yes striding, not walking) past. The brass puffs
his shoulders, an aide carries his file or his bag, another two aides follow
and the driver precedes to make sure the sirens work, the seats are dusted and
the Govt metal mascots and emblems all over official car are properly adjusted.
This car by the way, is freely used sirens and all to take his wife shopping
and to her hens’ parties.
