Very popular in India the Sarangi is used in Carnatic and Hindustani music as well as in Ghazals. It has probably been used in India since ancient times, in some form or other prior to the invasions by the Mughals. The Rebek modern design of course was standardized in Europe, in Italy perhaps. To explain my interest in this topic, I happen to own one such Rebek that was bequeathed to me by my mother. It is an "Antonio Stradivarius Cremonensis " made in Bohemia in the year 1722. But Goans had access to all kinds of musical instruments before the 16th century. Here is a Sarangi being played in a Ghazal.
