I can’t purport to speak on behalf the Catholic population which was 40% of
Goa’s population at 1961, but this is how it looks from that point of view:

1. All the people who were actively asking for freedom from Portugal would not
have comprised of even 1% of the population.
2. Portugal in the person of Salazar was stubborn as a mule.
3. India in the person of Krishna Menon and cohorts were as devious and cunning
as the other party was stubborn.
4. India has betrayed the hopes of peaceful and good governance of the Goan
people.
5. It didn’t take long for Nehru’s promises of special status for Goa to fall
by the wayside.
6. Instead of the best and brightest of the Goans joining government, it was
the lowest percentile of barely educated crooks, scoundrels and criminals to
took to it.
7. Goa as a beautiful land has been destroyed by rapacious growth.
8. A sizeable part of original Goans (refer to Manohar Parab of Revolutionary
Goans for definition) flee Goa every opportunity they get.
9. For overseas Goans who have no relatives left in Goa, deciding to vacation
there is an iffy proposition (no problem, the drugees and sloths from the world
over make up for it).
10. Goa has seen an influx of people from surrounding states making the
original Goans a minority, (nobody’s to blame because of 8 above).
