SIBBLING RIVALRIES As brothers and sisters when we were young playing along considered as one family to where we always belong Our parents were just and fair no bias ,no special care But as we grew up we realized they had preferences to spare. The boys always got lions share as girls we were not jealously aware We did not dissent to raise an alarm to caution them to beware We all lived freely mingling together without concerns for gender No separate rooms toilets for boys and girls Conscious differences between sexes to ponder We received equal attention in family and school parents strongly discouraged fights But why did we become so jealous not to uphold unity and rights A father, mother may have been attracted to elder, younger but it was not a design to divide But our innocence , motives were at the fore A family desire by unity not to abide Girls were not an asset after marriage given away customary dowry was burden to bear Boys expected to continue lineage of the family support the parents maintenance and care Properties ,assets were the bone of contentions Both sexes wanted equal rights Physical and legal confrontations emerged neither would relent to avoid the fights.. Parents alloted by will at times Children feel unfair and unjust Jealousies, accentuated greed and hate Causing discontent eneimities, fueled by lust Parents often treated badly by son and daughter in law neglected ,shunted out of the house The daughters no matter their financial standing Care and love of parents is never a grouse . Birth of a girl is no more evil or a curse a dependable ,reliable source In the worst of circumstances, neglect a comfort to parents and resource Why children driven by hatred will not even embrace as brothers sisters talk face to face. Selfishness, pride ,greed comes into play splitting family apart is shameful disgrace Parents languish alone or in old aged home Children abandon them in search of job pitiful neglect of elderly without remorse own children heartlessly happiness rob . Unity of family parents, siblings is the need ambitions, desires aspirations are legitimate But good relations between brothers and sisters there is no substitute indeed The bonds between the family of same blood must grow prosper and flourish Irrespective of our envies and Jealousies love and unity at all costs a desire to cherish ....Nelson Lopes chinchinin
