There used to be magic in the air during the Christmas season in Goa. That is now a distant memory. The major part of the reason is the physical change (decay, really) around us - too much concrete with the resultant decrease in tree cover, too many (non-Goan) people around, the tremendous increase in noise and light pollution, and so on. The same situation obtains, for me at least, during Diwali. There was something deeply and uniquely Goan about the atmosphere during these two festivals and that core is now forever gone.
