Democracy at cross roads in India Elections are grand festivals here in India It is an opportunity to make grandiose promises and propose appealing Schemes SC. is presently looking into it whether it constitutes bribes. The schemes are unviable ,unproductive financial doles to woe voters. The appeals to caste, ,religion, language have outlived their popularity Women voters are a new found source and more certain voters constituting half the population of voters. The hate, revenge and intolerance has taken centre stage and Hindutva is the bone of contention.Defense and economy are high priority. The pandemic has created unforseen economic and so has demonstration, , GST .Unemployment, women security, , rising prices fuel , food created problems too. The centre is creating hype by physical monuments and use of catchy slogans Elections are high on political parties at centre and states.Defections , poaching, are causing waves.Though it is a central subject nobody is interested in plugging loopholes Oaths and Affidavits suffer from legal infirmities. .Anti defections has lost its tooth due to circumventing and parties subverting norms to hold to power No party is interested in seriously taking cognizance, as it is a win win situation A simple law to limit term for two years with provision for recall.Ban defectors and defranchhise them. Those resigning must pay the costs of reelections .independents either stickto their philosophy and not act as opportunists or ban independents seeking Elections Constitute two party system.. DEFECTORS be banned for full term from holding any office of profit UNDER Govt.. Have a relook at Speaker being redressal Officer and all disputes be addressed in a limited time frame. The anti Defection law needs revisiting as it has become redundant No democracy in the world to my knowledge encourages defections of anytime or poaching by parties Democracy in India is in turmoil due to defections encouraged by all political parties as the means to retain power through back door, when mandate is lost Coalition politics is in vogue inspite of its pitfalls
