Hypocrisy and double dealings always come to the surface in times of tension.
On the radio news this morning one could hear Joe Biden warning the Oligarchs in the most threatening voice he could muster in words to the effect that: “We will take you to task and bring you to justice, depriving you of all your ill-begotten wealth”. OK, Mr President, it took Russia invading Ukraine to realize that the Oligarchs were merrily money-laundering and investing all those ill-begotten gains in your countries? Everyone knows that the oligarchs have outdone the Gulf Arab Sheikhs and the Indian scammer-billionaires in grabbing London property, for one. Some countries seem to be panicking and losing their cool with the Russian Bear. Talk is being bandied about prosecuting Russians for war crimes and even depriving Russia of membership in the Security Council on the grounds it was the Soviet Union and not Russia who was granted that membership. Hope they got some of their own war-mongers ready to be led away in handcuffs for destroying entire countries based on trumped up proof. All this would have earned a few guffaws from me had not the situation in Ukraine been dire, with loss of lives. Roland. Toronto.
