Exactly 10 years ago on this day, we had the 2012 Goa Assembly election in which Manohar Parrikar was swept back into power with a majority.
Despite the usual crew of naysayers, some of us threw in our lot with Manohar-bab. We realized that it was now or never. It was going to be the final opportunity to redirect course and preserve the essence of the Goa we knew. Alas, that was not to be. Manohar Parrikar turned out to be just another corrupt crook. Not only did he not preserve anything, he made things worse, much worse. In 2014, I had this to say on Goanet - http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2014-January/15155a 7.html I no longer keep abreast of the politics in Goa. After the Manohar debacle, I resigned myself to the outcome. But to the younger Goans who still nurse hopes of a revival, I say - more power to you. Unlike the naysayers we encountered, I want to believe in your hopes for amchem Goem, the land of our forefathers. r
