Pramod Sawant continues to be an ‘accidental’ Chief Minister. Despite all that Power and Authority at hand, at the February 14th Assembly elections he managed to miraculously escape defeat by a mere 666 votes.
Besides, he was not spontaneously the unanimous choice of the 19 other BJP MLAs for the CM’s throne.After a very prolonged maneuvering and power struggle, the BJP high Command opted for Pramod Sawant who in fact was the ultimate choice of the RSS. And with the blessings of the Casino and illegal mining lobby Pramod Sawant has successfully retained the Chair. It is an undisputed fact that the Chief Minister who for obvious reasons has been better known as Mr. Property Sawant has been extremely unpopular with the common man across Goa. Nothing should be expected from Pramod Sawant in this second innings after his pathetic performance and total failure over the earlier three years as Chief Minister. The only silver lining of this government is that it has a very knowledgeable and fair Advocate General by way of Devidas Pangam who must be feeling helpless with law breakers at the helm of affairs who don’t believe or care to adhere to the Rule of law. He is also expected to face a more robust opposition, unlike the last three years ! The length of time he has taken to hand out ministerial portfolios which has still not been completed and afraid to upset his fellow MLAs, shows that Pramod Sawant is a CM in power but not in control.
