Hi Mel...Interesting and profound painting by a Hasidic Jew. Of a Jewish Man who was considered as a rebel (but Who was Incarnate). Many Catholics /Christians tend to forget that Christ was a Jew. I have never heard of this work by Chagall. 1938---as per the link. Just before WW2! How could he possibly have known to depict the horrors of what would happen. The whole painting is so packed and alive with imagery.... Hasidic Jews are deeply into the Torah; wonder what drew him to paint the crucified Jesus?
