"We have to be confident about who we are. I think it is better to engage the
world on the basis of who we are rather than try and please the world as a pale
imitation of what they are,"

Brave words from S. Jaishankar India’s Foreign Minister and I am starting to
admire his foreign policy stands, but the truth is India is nowhere where
Jaishankar thinks it is or would like it to be.

With Modi at the helm, the country’s economy is very precarious and its sixth
best rank in world GDP is due to a past set of fortunate circumstances and is
unsustainable.

Unemployment is at record levels,
Corruption has crept in every facet of Indian life more than ever before, the
lives of the poor have sunk to previously unplumbed depths, while a few cronies
of Modi like the corrupt Adani have outdone long standing US billionaires like
Warren Buffet in their personal wealth merely by hollowing out India’s rotten
banking system.

The influx of wealth and investment transfers from Europe and the US in past
decades have given a false sense of security to the Indian economy, ignoring
that flight capital can impoverish a country in a short matter of time.

India is becoming a pariah among nations with its genocidal attitude towards
its minorities which by now is no longer a local secret. Irresponsible and
crazy statements by ruling party mavericks only add fuel to the fire and large
corporations and investors are no doubt taking note of it with regard to their
capital at risk.

Post Covid inflation challenges test even the best governments on the globe let
alone the ragtag and motley crew of illiterate, corrupt and shortsighted
communalists that parade as Indian legislators.

So Mr. Jaishankar, your heart is in the right place but don’t carry it on your
sleeve because the rest of your Hindutva gang knows little of how to run a
country. Truth be told no matter how stridently they deny it, their success so
far was achieved on the backs of far better people who preceded them.
