Title: Our Lady of the Rosary Object description:This figure of Our Lady of the Rosary is represented standing alone without the Infant by her side, as otherwise generally seen in imagery of the Virgin of the Rosary. The image of Mary here is sculpted from a single piece of bone where she is represented wearing a robe tied along the waist with a band, and a mantle. The mantle is held high with her arms thus exposing her robe in the front. She is shown holding the rosary beads hanging downwards with her right arm, standing on a pedestal also carved from the same piece of bone as the entire sculpture. In this representation Mary is shown with her hair covered in her mantle. Porosity, very characteristic to bone, is visible along the back of the image.
Period: 19th Century Source: Salvaged from near the Capela de Santa Cruz (Casa Andrade), Ambajim, Margão, Goa Título: Nossa Senhora do Rosário Descrição do objeto: Esta figura de Nossa Senhora do Rosário é representada sozinha, sem o Menino ao seu lado, como geralmente se vê nas imagens da Virgem do Rosário. A imagem de Maria aqui é esculpida a partir de um único pedaço de osso onde ela é representada vestindo uma túnica amarrada na cintura com uma faixa e um manto. O manto é erguido com os braços, expondo assim o manto na frente. Ela é mostrada segurando as contas do rosário penduradas para baixo com o braço direito, de pé em um pedestal também esculpido no mesmo pedaço de osso de toda a escultura. Nesta representação, Maria é mostrada com os cabelos cobertos pelo manto. A porosidade, muito característica do osso, é visível ao longo do verso da imagem.
