It is disturbing and distressing to witness the manner in which the BJP’s Narendra Modi government has selectively been targeting its political opponents across the country. The Central Bureau of Investigation, the Income Tax and the Enforcement Directorate are being manipulated and misused by the BJP to persecute their political opponents.
Anyone and everyone in breach of law should be unsparingly punished. Is the BJP trying to tell us that its very own cadre is holier than the Cow? Retribution is morally flawed and problematic in concept and practice. In a way this gross abuse of Power against Opposition Politicians comes as no surprise, if the BJP has even chosen to harass and hassle a small little man like me for over a decade. The BJP in Goa has been persistently misusing the Crime Branch to unduly harass me hook or by crook. But all their gimmicks have not borne fruit as the Courts have ensured the Rule of law. I have for long personally suffered a lot on account of all this vicious witch-hunt by the BJP but have endured this long battle with the grace of God besides prayers and blessings from my fellow brethren. The late Sir Bernard Crick, a distinguished British political scientist rightly opined that ‘a politics of vengeance is not politics. Revenge is recklessness towards the future in a vain attempt to make the present abolish a suffering which is already past’. Hillary Clinton vowed to fight against the divisive politics of revenge and retribution. Instead, she would work to lift people up, NOT put them down. It is time that the BJP Government in Goa and at the centre took their advice and did the same! Adv.
