Aloha,
Turkey was, in the late 60s & early 70s, my 'travel academy'. In those days the country was solidly autarcic, and once, encountering more ticketing trouble at Trabzon airport than my elementary command of the lingo could manage, I asked for the manager in the hope to explain my case in English. His reply was "A Turk speaks Turkish'. Yet we managed. Ever since I was always thinking of Turks in 'exotic' places as ... very exotic. This is is of course way no longer the case - and celebrated Turkish author Orhan Pamuk was (is still?) apparently a Goa Winters regular. I wonder if any of you people ever met him. https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2022/jun/20/novelist-orhan-pamuk-dayanita-singhs-mesmerising-photos-indias-disintegrating-archives Enjoy! Cheerio, p+7D!
