 IF GST in India works the same way as VAT, it's not correct to say that it is 
an accumulation of taxes. The tax is indeed due at every stage of the process - 
can be many - but is refunded to every previous stage till the last one, the 
end user, who pays the full amount of it. 


 Value Added  Tax, or GST is a dream for governments since it turns every 
seller into an unpaid taxman. But it's also good for the consumer/end user 
because it makes the tax component much more transparant. But it is also a 
highly regressive tax in the sense that it taxes the poor, whose expenditures 
are VAT-taxable for the major part, much more than the rich, who spend a large 
amount of their income on non taxed goods/services (investments, house buying, 
consultancy, etc.)
