Panaji Traffic cops trying to take cover about the traffic chaos in the city due to their mismanagement claiming that it has only 59 staff is indefensible. Panaji is a very small city and can be well managed if the cops dutifully perform their duty with honesty and commitment within a well thought out traffic management system and with a zero tolerance to corruption and traffic abuses.
In any task it is not just the number of staff but its proper deployment that matters. Quality always prevails over Quantity. In Panaji, the major traffic mayhem is on three of its main roads. Dayanand Bandodkar Marg, 18th June Road and Atmaram Borkar Road. We all know that the traffic cops have conveniently not been acting against all the Casino related vehicles which are parked on the Dayanand Bandodkar Marg around the clock despite it being a no stopping – no parking road. Is corruption or external interference holding the cops from cracking on these obvious traffic abuses on this very busy road? If the Panaji Traffic cops cannot manage to ensure free flow of traffic and reduce the daily inconvenience to people, which they have now proved, heads must roll to make room for new brooms to sweep clean and effectively. We needed the Andhra Police to step into Goa and guide us crack the rampant drug trade in our State. Would we need a team of traffic cops from there or possibly even from neighboring Karnataka to cruise into Goa to fix the traffic mess in our capital city? It seems inconceivable that a capital city striving to be a smart city does not have smart city traffic management solutions to battle the traffic mayhem in our capital city! Adv.
