Dears, Even they contribute who stand and stare.
I am not so sure about the "Big Mouths"...specially if they sing a different tune each time, just like the Juke box that responds to the inserted coin. Is it all about money, honey? Why blame Churchill...at least he is not Joking ;-)) After Radharao, Churchill is going to be the first person/MLA to move a Private Member's Bill to re-recognise my "Mai bhas" as a "Language" by re-defining "Konkani" in section 2 [c] of the OLA, 1987. Who cares a damn about the OFFICIAL language anyway? Even the Official Gazette of Goa is published EXCLUSIVELY in English!! Mog asundi. As you have rightly pointed out the poder and the barber and the waste picker also do something for Goa. As does Churchill Alemao. The same applies to certain overseas Goans. They soapbox so much that they're sitting ducks for questioning. You can't have your cake and eat it too. I wonder if the Goa Day organisers are giving serious thought to my suggestion of having 'Giving Back" as the theme for next year's Goa Day. While we are on the topic. In 2004 Remo made strong public statements against IFFI, saying that what Goa needs is better hospitals and schools. But he performed for the closing ceremony of the IFFI and was paid quite well. Rs. 3 lakhs, if I am not mistaken. When questioned on the hypocrisy of this act he publicly claimed that his performance was as a professional and his opinions were as an individual - or something to that effect. He even publicly said he would donate all his earnings from the performance to educational and medical institutions. After all these flamboyant statements I don't recall any public announcement of which institutions were the beneficiaries of his promised generosity. Now some might say it is in bad taste to ask for details of claimed charity. But when all other statements are made in public I feel it is only right that the details of where the money was donated should also be made public. My baker, who just passed by, helped me create a sandwich of a poyee. He too contributes! So does the barber from Hyderabad, offering out-of-this-world head massages for Rs 20. Surely, it's not only those with fat cheque books or high profiles that contribute! Let everyone do whatever they are comfortable with.
